I retired from the banking world in April, 2011. I started devoting my time to publishing my books on high school football history and developing this website. I made numerous contacts and was on my way to becoming a full time journalist. Really. It took quite a bit of time and resulted in a weekly radio event with a Las Cruces station, numerous visits to the NMAA to help sell books through them, working with other websites, etc.
I was devoted to this effort and a hobby that had consumed much of my free time since 1977. But then I got a job.
Since April, 2012 I have been in Buena Vista, Colorado working for a bank here. I agreed to the job because of the nature of it and the promise that my function would be a specific area that would end in "a year or two". Cyndee (my wife) and I decided she would continue to keep the home fires burning in Bayfield and I would rent an apartment in BV for the time being. Some thought has gone into moving to BV permanently but there are other complications with that plan.
So, here I am, writing a book (more like a booklet) on the history of Buena Vista football (https://www.createspace.com/4087827) and following the Demons as they went to the state championship game this Thanksgiving. I helped broadcast a couple of football games and this winter I will broadcast basketball games in the area.
All of this has curtailed my efforts to be more visible and part of the NM football scene. I did follow the teams and did update my book which is now available (https://www.createspace.com/4099835). This website has not been as active because of the changes in my situation.
My future? I anticipate the next football season (2013) will still be in Buena Vista which is 200 miles north of Bayfield in the middle of Colorado. Cyndee and I have gotten into the habit of seeing each other frequently. In fact, she has come here more than I have gone to Bayfield. We are comfortable with the routine although this will be our first winter and, well, we'll see how that goes. Nevertheless, I still intend to keep up with the scores and my good friends who have this same, silly habit as I.
